As they sat at a table near a window, Valerie picked up one half of her club sandwich.

“What’s on the schedule for this afternoon?”

“As far as I know, for us nothing. Free time.” Owen bit into his hamburger. “While you’re at the spa I’ll just go back to the cabin.”

“You could come to the spa with me.” She looked at him with half-lidded eyes.

He shook his head. “I think I’ll just go watch some TV. Maybe check in with the kids. I’m not much of a spa person.”

“You can’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I think you might be surprised how much you like it. Think steam room, hot tub, massage, facial, pedicure, manicure—”

Owen held up a hand. “No facial, pedicure, or manicure for me. But I have to admit a good steam room sounds nice.”

She laughed. “But I want you to get a massage as well. I promise you’ll like it. As far as I’m concerned, you haven’t lived until you’ve had one. So what do you say?”

He said nothing for a few moments. “Okay, I’ll go along. This time.”
